I am sure most people have heard of Walgreens pharmacies. Express Scripts, a medical insurance network provider has decided it will no longer pay for prescriptions filled by Walgreens pharmacies nationwide as well as Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York City area. If you have Express Scripts medical insurance then this news could be very inconvenient and troublesome to you. Walgreens and Express Scripts have had a contract up until December 31, 2011. Walgreens tried to negotiate with Express Scripts but failed. As of January 1, 2012 Express Scripts will no longer pay for prescriptions filled at Walgreens pharmacies.

Walgreens wants to ease the burden for their customers while keeping them shopping at their pharmacies. They have extended a special discount on the annual membership for the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens. Now for only $10 per year a family can join the club and enjoy the savings. The membership covers the immediate family including the spouse, dependents 22 years of age and under and their pets. If you do not need a family plan individuals may join for only $5.

Joining the Walgreens club will allow you to receive discounted prices as well as savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications, discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies. Find out more by following them at Walgreens on Facebook and Walgreens on Twitter pages.
