Amtrak plans to go green by adding 70 new electric locomotives.
Most people would agree railroads have a reputation of not being very environmentally friendly but new technology is helping them to turn things around. Amtrak has decided to add new electric locomotives to their fleet and in doing so it has awarded a $466 million contract to Siemens Corporation. The six-year contract could create as many as 250 new jobs in the Sacramento, California, Norwood, Ohio and Alpharette, Georgia plants.
